Color or Theme?

When planning an event, one of the questions we pose to get you started is “Do you have a theme in mind?” and “Do you have a color scheme in mind?”

Ocassionally people try to incorporate both, which is not an easy task and doesn’t always display as well as you may think.

In some cases this can work, for example a princess theme with a pink color scheme. Or a beach party with a blue color scheme. Those two things generally go hand in hand. Look at the example of an ocean party. Using purple in this case works as well because it’s in the family of blues.

Trying a Frozen theme with a pink theme, and this could crash and burn. Or and art theme with a black and white scheme. By not using color you are taking fun out of the best part of art which is the color!

Here’s a good example of a pink and black themed party. You can make it classy without diluting it with a non-relatable theme.

It’s important to decide which is more important to you. You’d be surprised by the colors you can pull from just a theme. Don’t overwhelm yourself with trying to fit everything into one party. Draw inspiration from your theme and see what you can come up with!
